a visit to the dog beach

The three of us have had our battle with the flu the past week or so.  It's hindered our opportunities to get out and have some fun, especially since Mama has been hit the worst.  Today however, we spontaneously decided to tell Mama's flu to take a backseat as we drove out to Leo Carillo dog beach.  Definitely a place that I have built some very fond memories - today was no exception.

A portrait of Naomi, once a week, every week, in 2014

- she loves to play in the guest room's bed, putting all her little friends to nap. -

Some of you may remember that there were earlier posts in the blog that were titled something like this - "2/52".  Those posts were for contributions to another blog that Nadia found where people were submitting one portrait a week for 52 weeks of their child.  There were many participants and I even had my first submission that I entered acknowledged by the blog owner and mentioned in the following weeks post :).  But as the weeks past and my days became more busy, I wasn't always able to get a picture submitted for our little Naomi.  This year however, I want to do this, but I will only post on our blog so there is no pressure to feel that I missed a deadline somewhere else.  I will be prompt, and always have a portrait every week, and it will be fun to see the progression as the year goes by.  So here is my first entry.  This photo was taken at or around New Years.  I hope you look forward to each week's portrait!

bye-bye to 2013

What a year!  Many big events this year for our little family.  The most significant?  Mama leaving work to stay home with Naomi and take on the challenge of a full-time Mama.  We bought our first home!  And we are finally starting to settle in :).  I definitely need to make a post about it.  I've made more strides in my career and of course, our little Naomi has flourished into toddler-hood.  A big year indeed.  We always try to meet the year's end and beginning at our favorite place - the beach.  This year's visit was a little more special since it's our first time really seeing Naomi take part in the festive tradition.  We have a lot to look forward to in 2014.  Naomi turns 2 in literally 3 months!  And both Nadia and I have big plans both individually and as a team.  I love the renewed sense of self that this time of year brings.

A little toddler

It's been a long while since I've posted a video.  I admit, it's hard playing catchup to a little person running around.  Seems overnight that Naomi decided to graduate from infant-hood and start toddler-hood.  Funny how Mama and I always say that a certain age is our favorite.  We both definitely say it now.  I mean, how could you resist seeing a little human start to express in such a way and how could you not get amazed by how they must see the world.  I guess the right thing to say is not that we have a favorite age so far - I guess the right thing to say is that Naomi growing, and every phase that comes with that, is our favorite.  Here's a small video with Naomi sharing some of her toddler-hood.
